Preventive Dentistry
New Patient Appointments
Your first appointment with our practice is very important. Dr. Elliott will take this time to thoroughly examine your mouth and take any x-rays necessary to complete a comprehensive exam. He will discuss any treatment you might need and educate you on your oral health. Due to time constraints, we do not offer cleanings during your new patient appointment but we are happy to schedule a time for you to see our hygienist when it is convenient for you.
Routine Exams and Cleanings
Regular dental exams and cleanings are an important part of preventive health care. These exams not only protect your oral health but also your general well-being. This preventative exam gives Dr. Elliott a chance to provide tips on caring for your teeth and to detect any problems early — when they're most treatable.
During the dental exam, we will clean your teeth and identify gum inflammation or bone loss. Dr. Elliott will also evaluate your risk of developing tooth decay or other oral health problems, as well as check your face, neck and mouth for abnormalities. A dental exam might also include dental X-rays or other diagnostic procedures.
During an exam and cleaning, our hygienist will discuss your oral hygiene habits and diet. We use this time to demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques.
Other topics for discussion during a dental exam might include:
- Any medications you're taking
- Use of tobacco products
- Consequences of tooth loss
- Benefits of crowns, fixed bridges or dental implants
- Use of dentures (as needed)
- Cosmetic procedures
A dental exam also gives you the opportunity to ask questions about your oral health.
